Treya is a Pitbull that once lived a very happy life with her owner. Despite being just the two of them living in their home, they shared many good times together. Treya had everything that a dog would ever need. Then a tragedy happened.
Treya’s life turned around completely when her owner was murdered. Without any family, she had nowhere to go. Someone tied her up in the deck on their home’s backyard and left her. There, the lonely dog stayed for the next five years.
Rediscovering happiness
Treya never had human companionship all those times and was surrounded by trash. Her only consolation was that the neighbors would throw her some food and give her water from time to time. She was alone, and nobody would come to her. It was very likely that the people were scared of her.
During those times, Treya was kept in a chain. At one point, the chain got wrapped in her foot, and she wasn’t able to get it loose. As the chain tightened and cut off blood supply to her foot, it got so painful that the dog chewed her own paw to get it free. All of these resulted in a traumatized dog that kept solely to her self.
Then one day, some firefighters found Treya in her condition and set her free. They brought her to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, a rescue organization in St. Louis that fosters stray dogs and cats and finds homes for them.
The staff at the shelter realized that Treya was scared of humans and refused to socialize with anyone. They put the terrified pooch in their trauma center, where she could get extra care to heal her mental wounds. There she met another stray dog named Pinky.
The two became instant friends. Pinky was not as traumatized as Treya, so she helped her to overcome her fears with humans. Treya started opening up to her rescuers and even learned how to wag her tail again. This gave hope to her rescuers.
Treya is now slowly recovering. She is learning to be happy again, thanks to Pinky. Hopefully, someone will give her a good home and show Treya humans can be trusted.
