Special Needs Puppy Finds A New Loving Family

Special Needs Puppy Finds A New Loving Family

Dan Faschingbauer January 15, 2021

Facing tough decisions on what to do, Rachele felt utterly defeated. Everything wasn’t going according to plan until a miracle happened.

Sick puppy

Earl was a tiny black puppy that was dumped at the local shelter. He had some congenital issues that weren’t allowing him to have the best quality of life.

Rachele Keech, the founder of Cleft Pup Brigade, heard about Earl and wanted to go and have a look herself. She felt terrible seeing the puppy having difficulty breathing and decided to give him a fighting chance.

Despite running a foster home for puppies, she had never seen a case like Earl’s. He was in really poor shape, so Rachele decided to take him to the vet.

It turned out; Earl’s windpipe was a lot smaller than it should’ve been, which meant he had a hard time trying to breathe. The vet suggested having him humanely euthanized.

Rachele had such high hopes for the puppy and felt completely heartbroken from the news. She was faced with a really tough decision. She didn’t want to give up on the puppy, but she knew that Earl needed a lot of special care and attention.

Ray of hope

Crystal was an avid fan of the Cleft Pup Brigade Instagram handle and followed the story of Earl. She felt attached to the dog and knew that she was able to give him the life he deserved.

After losing Jay, Crystal’s husband, her family was left in a sad state. Their son Max needed to fill a void in his heart that his dad left and thought that getting a puppy would help them heal.

Rachele passed the puppy on to Crystal’s family for a long-term fostering. Earl was still fighting for his life, but his new family was right there to cheer him on.

Max remembered all the good memories he had with his dad and wanted to give Earl the same experiences. He made a bucket list of things to do with the puppy, such as walking down the boardwalk or sitting in front of a police car.

After a few weeks, Earl’s trachea started showing some growth, and their family vat said that the puppy was fighting back and beating the odds. The family was so glad to hear this news.

Earl had a significant impact on Crystal and Max. They made Earl an official member of the family.
