When Delilah, a small and filthy pup, was dropped off at a local shelter a few months back, the staff could immediately tell that she had been through a lot. She had a crooked jaw that made eating really hard and matted fur that was so thick it rendered one of her front paws completely useless.
Because of her appearance and condition, the staff knew Delilah would find it difficult to find a forever home. But thankfully, Chris and Mariesa Hughes came to her rescue. The couple, both from Clifton Park, New York, had been running a non-profit organization called The Mr. Mo Project that cared for neglected senior dogs left in shelters.
When they met Delilah, they knew that she needed their help the most. So they immediately decided to submit their paperwork as her foster parents and bring her home with them. They also had her scheduled for surgery to remove her front paw and make it easier for her to walk.
While waiting for her operation, Delilah stayed with the couple and their other rescue dogs. At first, she found it hard to get used to her new life. She would typically spend her time alone in a corner and avoid any sort of interaction with her humans and doggy siblings.
But the moment she came back from her surgery, Mariesa noticed that the pup had transformed into a sweeter and more confident canine. She was no longer the timid and scared pup that the couple first met. Instead, she became outgoing and friendly and got along with her fur siblings really well.
From there, it didn’t take long for Chris and Mariesa to fall in love with her, and just recently, the couple decided to adopt the pup into their growing family officially. Delilah had since stayed with the Hughes and continued to win hearts all over the internet. Look at her with her fur mom here.
