Four-year-old border collie ZIB had lived most of his early life in fear and neglect. He was initially a resident at a shelter in Claremore, Oklahoma. But because the pup had a painful skin disease and sunburn that created red patches on his white fur, no one was really interested in adopting him.
Fortunately, Border Collie Rescue and Rehab, a non-profit dog rescue in Texas, came to ZIB’s aid and pulled him out of the shelter. The organization nursed him back to health, shouldered all of his vet bills, and showered him with plenty of care. Once the canine recovered from his condition, the non-profit paired him with a foster mom for the meantime.
ZIB started opening up to humans after arriving at his foster home and slowly got used to the life of being a pet. On the other hand, Border Collie Rescue and Rehab promoted ZIB’s story on their website in hopes of finding his forever home.
It didn’t take long for dog lover Curtis Hartsell to find the canine from there. The moment he read ZIB’s profile online, he immediately felt a connection with him and decided to reach out to the organization to learn more about him. When the staff received his message of interest, they connected Curtis to the border collie’s foster fur mom.
The two exchanged messages to gauge ZIB’s compatibility with his potential owner, and his foster mom was positive that they were the perfect pair. At first, Curtis was still hesitant to apply for adoption as he assumed the pup would not be able to keep up with his active lifestyle.
But something was telling him that it would work out just fine, so he pushed through with the adoption and got approved in no time. On the day that Curtis met ZIB, the fur dad was so overwhelmed that he knelt down to the pup’s level and lovingly asked him if he wanted to come home with him.
In response, ZIB bowed his head and gave him a hug. Curtis admitted that this gesture warmed his heart, and right there and then, he knew that they would become the best of pals. Look at ZIB’s tearjerker adoption day here.
