One early Saturday morning, someone working from Happy Tails Pet Resort and Spa named Marty Carriere was making preparations for a busy day. While really busy, he saw somebody outside the door. He didn’t even expect anyone to come in that early, so he waited for a moment. Then he saw a wet nose trying to push through the gates.
Carriere said it was only 6:30. Usually, he would wait for the dog’s owners to go in with their pets. But no one was out there with the dog. Carriere hadn’t seen anyone or any cars outside. So, he directly went to the door and checked things out. There, he found Jem.
Jem is a 5-year-old shepherd mix. She was the one waiting outside, poking her nose through the doggy day care door. Jem used to go there three or four times a week before the pandemic. She was obviously longing to see her friends.
According to Carriere, he was surprised when he opened the door and found a dog outside, who happened to be one of their regulars there. He let Jem come in. Then she quickly ran inside with her tail wagging and was ready to go.
Without hesitation, Carriere phoned Jem’s parents, who hurried over to fetch her. Jem seemed to be such an independent dog who went out of their yard without her parents’ knowing and walked herself to the day care.
Her mom and dad took her home for breakfast and then brought her right back to the doggy day care. They knew that was only how Jem wanted to spend her entire day. She was apparently eager to get there to play.
Carriere added that Jem is such a silly pup at the doggy day care. She really loves to play with all of the other dogs there. She would get in and does her own howling thing that other dogs never do. Maybe that early morning she couldn’t wait for her parents to get up, so she instead went there herself.
Carriere has worked for Happy Tails Pet Resort and Spa for 3 years already. But he has never heard or encountered any of that happened before. Jem is completely different from other dogs.
